Miscellaneous Days between the second day and today

These days were pretty decent. We left oakland on the third day, after visiting Berkeley. My grandfather on my mother’s side lives near San Jose so we went and visited him for 2 days. Those days were nice enough, plenty of mexican food, chinese food, fun. Though the bed i slept on was awful, it was like sleeping on a floor, only less comfortable. on the first whole day there we visited the campus of SanJose State. It was crap compared to berkeley. The tout guide also was crap. Over all: not a good impression. Anyway today we went down the coast on highway 1 to santa maria to visit my other grand father. It is about dinner time so i am going to wrap this up. Tomorrow we visit CalPoly and after that we drive back up to oakland with my grandfather and then we go home.

Second day in Oakland

Well i had even more awesome mexican food today. The family and I went to a farmers market down at Jack London square in Oakland. It was way better than anything i’ve had on the east coast. This farmers market was fantastic, it was right along the coast and there was just this straight walk down with a whole bunch of tents selling various things. My Uncle is a profession chef so he has been going to this market for a while. He went and picked up fresh produce, bread, sausage, etc. Besides farmers selling their wares, there were a bunch of stands selling food. There was indian, greek, mexican, etc I decided to go with some chicken Taco’s from the mexican stand (which only sold tacos). They were delicious. Anyway after doing all that, we went to an outdoor mall so i could buy an airplane/var power adapter for my macbook pro. This way i will not run out of power with 5 hours left in a place flight. Anyway not much else going on today, tomorrow is the UC Berkeley visit.

Helixoide.com and the New Router

A few days ago i replaced the main router for my house and Helixoide.com so that caused a bit of downtime. After i got everything back up and running i realized that this router does not support loopback, because of this when i am working from my local network i do not have access to my website. This is a bit inconvenient, but from what i have heard from 2wire (the makers of the router) i just have to live with it. Luckily none of the services provided by helixoide.com are affected by this issue outside of my house

Slserv

So SlServ is almost totally working. Today i added support for queued messages to both incoming and outgoing sl messages. The only issues now are with the sl side scripts which i am too lazy to make work properly. I will probably make them work properly eventually but for now i am satisfied with having the server side part work as intended (mostly). Also i migrated slserv over to google code seeing as setting up trac ldap and svn on helixoide.com was proving to be difficult. the link is http://code.google.com/p/helixoide-slserv/

DarkDna.net

So I am now a blogger on darkdna.net if you want to see me post more random meaningless crap ^.^

Happy Holidays

Well happy holidays from everyone at Helixoide (aka me) As the year comes to an end I look back and see how much I have accomplished. Since i began working under the name Helixoide i have finally gotten a domain name, set up an irc server and done numerous things with my server. I would also like to take the time to thank zsizsi who kindly gave me Cypher. Without that little computer Helixoide.com would not exist as it does today. Anywho time to look to the future. I plan on expanding as much as i can and doing all kinds of things with the helixoide servers. I am currently developing some projects with java and i will see how they go. well Happy Holidays Everyone.

The status of Cypher

Well it has been 6 days since i last made the changes to cypher, these changes included operated system upgrades changes to vsftpd, a proxy server and changes to some kernel modules, these changes have appeared to stabilize the server and gotten most of the things I wanted working. Now i need to find other things to do with it

Backup system

Well i have set up a new system to make backups of cypher just to insure redundancy. These backups will happen at midnight everyday judging by the cpu usage during this first backup it would seem they are rather intensive so we shall see how it works out in the long run. The external drive i’m using is also kind of noisy :/

New monitor

well black friday rocks and i am defiantly looking forward to cyber monday. zsizsi a good friend of mine in the real world, who also happens to help out with Helixoide happened to be going to BestBuy at 3 in the morning on black friday. He asked me if i wanted anything and i asked for a 20″ monitor which was only 80$ (excluding tax). I wasn’t actually expecting him to get it but he Im’ed me today to tell me he got it. So i can finally get rid of the clunky old CRT monitor that is sitting on my desk.

Celcius updates

Well right now i am working on bringing up celcius. I think i am going to use it for backups and maybe some jabber services. Since it is loud and in my room right now it will probably be turned off at night. I really need to find a way to make it silent. I am also planning on migrating any data i have there to cypher. in other news ircd is a bitch to setup. I am still trying to figure out how to get it so i can have a working network here but i think that is a while away at this point.
