Ironic…

Well this week is coming to a highly ironic end. I decided to work Home coming week.weekend in order to make more money. Since no one wants to work over homecoming i could stand to make a decent amount of money. Of course most of my thinking has been tainted by a lack of long lasting friendships. Ironically now i hav friends and people i actually want to hang out with going to the various homecoming festivities. Oh well guess I get to make money

Apple Tablet and Android phones

Well i am a regualr reader of engadget and Wired and i have noticed a massive increase in apple tablet rumors and articles on new android phones. As you know i own an ipod touch 2g (i also have a macbook pro) I would love for the apple tablet rumors to be true and from the looks of things they probably will be. The tablet market makes sense, it is the next logical step for apple to take after dominating the mobile phone market. I recently read an article on Wired about the the app,e tablet and the subtle hints that Apple is preparing for this new product. In summation they basically said that the update to App Store policy (the change to allow free apps to use in-app purchase) is a defiantly sign that apple has something new on the way. I totally agree with that. If you look at a timeline of products in the iphone/ipod line the next step is the tablet.

Now for the android phones

The market has been flooded with new android phones and i think that a few of them might represent the Iphones competition in the future. One can not mention Android based phones without mentioning HTC they built the g1 and they have just taken off with many android phones that are getting progressively more capable. Other companies are also starting to take interest in the platform as well. Accer has been developing one as well as many other major phone and computer companies. I have not personally messed with an android phone but i like that it is open source so you can change many things about it. In my opinion that is one weakness in the Iphone. There is not much flexibility. Sure they have the App Store and the Iphone OS provides a great GUI, BUT there is no true extendability. I personally have jail broken my Ipod-touch 2g. The world of enhancements and apps is amazing once you step out of the rigid confines of the normal Iphone OS. I would be curious if apple provided a way to dual boot an iphone with some other operating system such as Android or even Maemo. (maemo looks incredible and will be available on the nokia n900). Anyway that’s all i really have to say on the subject.

Rain…

Its rainy and depressing today. I am planning on taking down the forums this weekend IF i can get a chance to go to radio shack to by the parts i need to work on the PIX. Not much else going on besides the fact that i am freezing cold and it is snowing/raining outside… IN OCTOBER. This is why i like Central coast California more than I like Connecticut :/

Jailbreak for 3.1.2

Well I decided to re-jailbreak my ipod touch 2nd gen today. I downloaded the latest PwnageTool (3.1.4) I Downloaded the latest ipod firmware using itunes and let PwnageTool do all the work it worked quickly and efficiently This was fantastic seeing as i first jailbroke this ipod using redsn0w which was kind of a bitch to get working This was extremely easy. Now All i have to do is add all my apps back to it and re sync my music.

Bitlbee

Last night on IRC people were comparing what IM clients they use and the name bitlbee came up. Bitlbee is a open source program that creates an irc server where you can link your other IM accounts. Basically it gives an irc interface to msn yahoo aol (etc) instant messengers. To start out i just downloaded the bitlbee build for Ubuntu server straight out of the repository. I had tried earlier to compile it by hand out of the dev branch but that didn’t work out) After that i messed around in the config file, all i did there was change the server passwords and eventually just make it open since its only open on my home network. After that it was a simple matter of connecting to my new bitlbee server and adding accounts.

Omg Huge Heatsink

I got a lot of stuff from that friend of the family and one of those things was a heat sink for a cpu. I didn’t pay much attention to it but today when i was digging through my piles of stuff trying to find the manual for the PIX 506 i rediscovered it and guess what, it is lol huge. I am trying to decide if i want to install this in Celcius or Carthage. neither of which ever get very hot.

ITS HUGE

Stuff in Secondlife

Well yesterday i began work on a sim scanner that uses a volumedetect megaprim to search the sim for avatars and physical objects. I was assisted by a friend in sl named selig arkin, We got most of the primary stuff working last night but there were a few hard to find bugs that plagued it. This morning i came back and fixed a lot of the bugs in the main scanning system and the rescanner as well. I also made the system simpler to read by creating some functions in the controller to make configuration of the scanner/rescanner easier. Right now there is only 1 bug that i can’t track down. It involves the scanner/rescanner picking up agents when i specify it to only look for objects.

Upgrades to Carthage

Yesterday i got tired of sitting around and finally decided to finish the upgrades to Carthage(my linux/windows box). A while back a friend of the family gave me a bunch of old computer stuff that he had no use for anymore. Most of it was obsolete so we tossed it(so sad). The stuff we did keep i have slowly been integrating into my network. this includes an old Cisco PIX 506 router, 8 75gb external hard drives, various routers etc. The parts that i added to Carthage were a Intel PRO/100+ Dual Port Server Adapter and a 5.1 surround sound, sound card by mad dog. I was going to add the second Ethernet adapter i got to Celcius but gateway has some weird way of creating a computer case so nothing fits properly. Anyway, i took pics so enjoy. pics are located here
