A Change of Scene….

The blog just got a new theme. I was bored with the old one. Also included are a few more links which go to a few friends blogs (Selig, Purrdeta, Jessie) the DarkDna Radio blog (not even sure if that is still going on) and the SlServ google code project.

In Oakland again, leaving for connecticu…

In Oakland again, leaving for connecticut tomorrow. Today I started messing with IDroid. It seems some people have finally finished porting android to the iphone, I wanted to see if it would work on an ipod touch 2g, but no dice. I guess i just need to wait for the developers to port it to itouch 2g. I Also finished adding more links to the blog. There is now a related sites bit which has links to a bunch of friends blogs and then the google code project for SlServ

Miscellaneous Days between the second day and today

These days were pretty decent. We left oakland on the third day, after visiting Berkeley. My grandfather on my mother’s side lives near San Jose so we went and visited him for 2 days. Those days were nice enough, plenty of mexican food, chinese food, fun. Though the bed i slept on was awful, it was like sleeping on a floor, only less comfortable. on the first whole day there we visited the campus of SanJose State. It was crap compared to berkeley. The tout guide also was crap. Over all: not a good impression. Anyway today we went down the coast on highway 1 to santa maria to visit my other grand father. It is about dinner time so i am going to wrap this up. Tomorrow we visit CalPoly and after that we drive back up to oakland with my grandfather and then we go home.

Second day in Oakland

Well i had even more awesome mexican food today. The family and I went to a farmers market down at Jack London square in Oakland. It was way better than anything i’ve had on the east coast. This farmers market was fantastic, it was right along the coast and there was just this straight walk down with a whole bunch of tents selling various things. My Uncle is a profession chef so he has been going to this market for a while. He went and picked up fresh produce, bread, sausage, etc. Besides farmers selling their wares, there were a bunch of stands selling food. There was indian, greek, mexican, etc I decided to go with some chicken Taco’s from the mexican stand (which only sold tacos). They were delicious. Anyway after doing all that, we went to an outdoor mall so i could buy an airplane/var power adapter for my macbook pro. This way i will not run out of power with 5 hours left in a place flight. Anyway not much else going on today, tomorrow is the UC Berkeley visit.

Hanging in California

Well I have just completed a 6 hour plane ride to San Francisco. My MacBook Pro died after I used it for an hour and my headphones died for a while too. So Over all the flight sucked. I was in coach all the way and it was jam packed. Anyway now that I am at my aunts house I can charge everything up and enjoy decent Mexican food. I am spending another day or so here then moving down to my old home town Scotts Valley. After that I leave for Santa Maria and my Grandfather’s house. This trip is going to take around 8 days so I will be back home on Saturday. Its good to be back in my home state. The best part of all this is of course the food. Out east where I currently reside there is no decent Mexican food. The moment I come out to California I plan my trip around my favoriate Mexican Restaurants. Anywho not really doing much else today. I will probably update with pictures and the status of my trip later.

Redbull Issues

Well redbull is up and running. However the system is incredibly unreliable. I am not entirely sure whats wrong, it seems like either an issue with redbull’s networking card or the router on zsizsi’s network. I can connect to the server for short periods of time, but it doesn’t take long for the connection to time out and eventually redbull drops off zsizsi’s network. I am hoping i can figure out the problem and get it working properly soon. In other news slserv is kind of sitting around as i figure out a good way to get channel passwords in order to secure device connections. I am also starting development of a chat client.

Redbull housesitting and the ipad

Well today is saturday. This means 3 things. the FIrst things: zsizsi is /supposed/ to bring redbull backup. Redbull will hopefully be on 24/7 as another irc node. It will also do some backup stuff too. The second thing: I am stuck house sitting this morning. So i am not in my normal work area. This also means i am stuck for the next 3 hours or so with a cat that sheds way to much and is way to friendly. The third thing is the reason why i am house sitting. The people i am house sitting for are expecting a certain package today… yah its an iPad. They are leaving me in charge of the delivery and I am also allowed to play with the iPad before they come home today. So it is kind of a win/meh/lose/win situation anyway redbull will hopefully be back up and running near the end of the weekend. I also plan on posting a first impressions sort of thing of the iPad.

Blarg

Well the lack of loop-back functionality has been very very VERY annoying. it makes it very hard to update this blog since it is hosted on cypher. Unfortunately 2wire probably isn’t going to be doing anything about this anytime soon. In other news: zsizsi got uber internet (kind of) because of this new and improved connection I have started pestering him repeatedly about setting redbull back up. (it had gotten lost many months ago) He has agreed to set it up this weekend so yay! I can’t really think of anything else to say, but SlServ is defiantly coming along. The latest builds have even more functionality and less errors. I am in the process of setting up basic crash recovery (the system can backup and load backups). Guess that’s it.

Helixoide.com and the New Router

A few days ago i replaced the main router for my house and Helixoide.com so that caused a bit of downtime. After i got everything back up and running i realized that this router does not support loopback, because of this when i am working from my local network i do not have access to my website. This is a bit inconvenient, but from what i have heard from 2wire (the makers of the router) i just have to live with it. Luckily none of the services provided by helixoide.com are affected by this issue outside of my house

Kryogen and the RHS IRC project

So today has been a great day for me. In fact the lat few days have been great. It started out when I finally got around to making my own IRC network. DarkDna is nice, and I am still providing two servers to them, but Iwanted to tinker with my own network. This includes services and everything. So thats what I did, I sat down and compiled Anope and Unreal again on cypher and setup a network. It runs on alternate ports since DD has priority at this time. I decided that RHS needed an IRC network. Even if the school is not tech focused (which is a shame) it still needed a network. So I made one. Currently it only has about 4 users total including me. I find this sad, but not unexpected. Not many people use IRC in the age of twitter facebook and myspace. People don’t seem to like use the community structure of IRC. I hope to change that a bit, but only time will tell if I am successful.

Anyway on to Kyrogen. Kryogen is the new laptop I got from a family member. It is not the greatest laptop in the world, especially when compared to my macbook pro… but it does have its uses. Specifically as just another computer I can play with. I might setup a webcam or something to run off of it. I am not sure what I will do but it should be interesting. Right now I am sitting around waiting for all the ubuntu updates to finish installing. I had ubuntu itself install while i went out to get some really amazing indian food for dinner. Now I am waiting for the updates to finish then I will probably go home. (I am current at the office of my fathers company). When I get home, if I have time I will post pictures of Kryogen.
