New monitor YAY

I got the new monitor and it is pretty amazing. It was amazingly lucky to find it for so cheap. Also thanks to zsizsi for picking it up on black Friday. Anywho here is a link to a gallery of pictures that show off the monitor: http://posiden.helixoide.com/gallery/index.php?sfpg=QWNlciB4MjAzSCB1bmJveGluZy8qKjBmNDRlNTQ1NWVlMzlmOGJlZmZkODRmNWM5YTdkMGMw

well tomorrow its back to the grindstone…

well tomorrow its back to the grindstone it was a nice 4.5 day weekend but all good things come to an end. Though towards the end i started feeling totally apathetic towards everything.. must be the “meh.” hoodie i’m wearing :P

New monitor

well black friday rocks and i am defiantly looking forward to cyber monday. zsizsi a good friend of mine in the real world, who also happens to help out with Helixoide happened to be going to BestBuy at 3 in the morning on black friday. He asked me if i wanted anything and i asked for a 20″ monitor which was only 80$ (excluding tax). I wasn’t actually expecting him to get it but he Im’ed me today to tell me he got it. So i can finally get rid of the clunky old CRT monitor that is sitting on my desk.

Google Wave

A while back i got an invite to google wave and have been enjoying it alot since then. When i watched the keynote again after getting an invite i realized that some of the people used phrases from firefly (a space western that was only on for a season) then i realized that google “wave” wave being a form of communication in the firefly universe. there are also quotes embedded in other parts of the system. Besides the heavy scifi influence wave is a pretty cool system. The ability to see what people type n real time is incredible and so is the entire layout of the website. the only gripes i have with it is the way threads are nested and how laggy the entire setup gets in a large conversation with lots of people entering text at the tame time.

Celcius updates

Well right now i am working on bringing up celcius. I think i am going to use it for backups and maybe some jabber services. Since it is loud and in my room right now it will probably be turned off at night. I really need to find a way to make it silent. I am also planning on migrating any data i have there to cypher. in other news ircd is a bitch to setup. I am still trying to figure out how to get it so i can have a working network here but i think that is a while away at this point.

Happy ThanksGiving from Helixoide

Well today there is much to give thanks to. I have successfully fixed vsftpd, corrected domain issues and got the cname aliases working again. Back in the days of celcius (Helixoide’s first server) i had just made a dyndns account and set up wild card cnames. Eventually they disabled that feature for free accounts and the old websites fell into disrepair. Now with our shiny new domain name (helixoide.com) we can get back to work. Helixoide will live on and continue to prosper now that we own helixoide.com. So happy thanksgiving everyone

Exciting news

Well today is a historic day for Helixoide and me. I am going to finally buy helixoide.com. This will hopefully let me begin setting up a better network of servers to do more stuff. At the moment Helixoide consists of Cypher (hosting this blog) Redbull which is down due to router issues but will be back up eventually and Celcius which is down until i get some routing issues figured out. With the domain name i can experiment with all kinds of stuff. This includes irc, wave, jabber, better websites etc. This should also mean the return of posiden.helixoide.com and zsizsi.helixoide.com the two personal blogs of the Helixoide team (only 2 people atm but w/e). Anyway thats all the news so far. This could be the beginning of the Helixoide internet empire <insert evil laugh here>

I hate vsftpd

Well i finally upgraded word press its 10:47 and i have been working on this for about an hour. On redbull i could just use the auto update feature but on cypher, for some reason it hates me. So i uploaded it manually.. Fun. In other news My birthday is tomorrow so yay me. This also means i might go out and actually get a proper domain name for this blog.

Ironic…

Well this week is coming to a highly ironic end. I decided to work Home coming week.weekend in order to make more money. Since no one wants to work over homecoming i could stand to make a decent amount of money. Of course most of my thinking has been tainted by a lack of long lasting friendships. Ironically now i hav friends and people i actually want to hang out with going to the various homecoming festivities. Oh well guess I get to make money

Apple Tablet and Android phones

Well i am a regualr reader of engadget and Wired and i have noticed a massive increase in apple tablet rumors and articles on new android phones. As you know i own an ipod touch 2g (i also have a macbook pro) I would love for the apple tablet rumors to be true and from the looks of things they probably will be. The tablet market makes sense, it is the next logical step for apple to take after dominating the mobile phone market. I recently read an article on Wired about the the app,e tablet and the subtle hints that Apple is preparing for this new product. In summation they basically said that the update to App Store policy (the change to allow free apps to use in-app purchase) is a defiantly sign that apple has something new on the way. I totally agree with that. If you look at a timeline of products in the iphone/ipod line the next step is the tablet.

Now for the android phones

The market has been flooded with new android phones and i think that a few of them might represent the Iphones competition in the future. One can not mention Android based phones without mentioning HTC they built the g1 and they have just taken off with many android phones that are getting progressively more capable. Other companies are also starting to take interest in the platform as well. Accer has been developing one as well as many other major phone and computer companies. I have not personally messed with an android phone but i like that it is open source so you can change many things about it. In my opinion that is one weakness in the Iphone. There is not much flexibility. Sure they have the App Store and the Iphone OS provides a great GUI, BUT there is no true extendability. I personally have jail broken my Ipod-touch 2g. The world of enhancements and apps is amazing once you step out of the rigid confines of the normal Iphone OS. I would be curious if apple provided a way to dual boot an iphone with some other operating system such as Android or even Maemo. (maemo looks incredible and will be available on the nokia n900). Anyway that’s all i really have to say on the subject.
